Hyundai’s Ioniq is the winner of the Women’s World Car of the Year 2017 award, and the car has also won the Green Car category as well.
The jury consists of 25 respected women motoring writers from over 20 different countries, including Autocar India’s Renuka Kirpalani. The jury eventually chose the Mazda CX-5 as its Family Car of the Year, the Ford Fiesta as its Budget Car, Peugeot’s 3008 as its SUV/Crossover and the BMW 5-series as its Best Luxury Car. The New Honda Civic Type R won the award in the Performance Car category.
The Holly Reich Dream Car award was taken by McLaren for the second time in a row with its 720S. Women’s World Car of the Year CEO, Sandy Myhre, said, “The car that wins the Supreme award has gone through a rigorous test by 25 judges from 20 different countries that are on the panel of Women’s World Car of the Year. It’s a democratic process and cars that have won categories and the supreme winner really have to stand out.”
The jury first nominates 420 cars and then narrows the list down to 60. A secret ballot follows to select the winner.
