The car, which will launch on May 11, will come with 2WD and 4WD variants.

Isuzu’s MU-X SUV is slated to hit showrooms on May 11, 2017. The MU-X will go up against the likes of Toyota’s Fortuner and Ford’s Endeavour.

For now, dealers have unofficially begun accepting bookings for the SUV, with the booking amount varying from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. The Indian car will come with one engine option initially; a 3.0-litre diesel that makes 163hp and 380Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox and this car is offered in both 2WD and 4WD.

Word on the grapevine is that Isuzu is planning to further expand the MU-X’s line-up later in the year, so there will be more 2WD and 4WD variants as well as a less-powerful 150hp, 1.9-litre engine. The MU-X will be assembled at Isuzu's Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh. This facility currently assembles the D-Max and V-Cross pick-up truck. While the company recently unveiled a facelifted version of the MU-X internationally, India will get the pre-facelifted MU-X first with the refreshed model set to follow later.

There are no details on the price yet, but dealers suggest that the SUV is cheaper than the Toyota Fortuner and may start from around ₹24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the 2WD variant.
