The British carmaker, Jaguar Land Rover has established their fifth manufacturing facility outside of U.K. Jaguar Land Rover has spent around Rs. 9400 crores to build this state-of-art facility at Nitra, Slovakia.
Tata Motors took over JLR in 2008 and then in 2011, the first plant of JLR outside U.K. was established in Pune, India. After that, the company opened its facility in China in 2014 followed by Brazil in 2016 and Austria in 2017. The facility at Nitra is the company’s latest step towards global expansion.
The advantage of opening a new facility is that it doesn’t have to deal with the global currency fluctuation and can expand its product portfolio. This facility employs 1500 locals as of now, and the company is planning to hire another 800 people. The facility has been designed to manufacture 1.5 lakh units of vehicles.
The facility houses Kuka’s Pulse carrier system and a highly automated paint shop. There are many parts like seats and wheels of the car that are being manufactured locally to keep the costs low. Apart from industrialising the place, the company is also doing various types of social and environmental projects.
With all the above things said, Jaguar Land Rover is moving towards a cleaner and greener future. To achieve this the company will introduce various electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2020. Currently, the company has Land Rover’s PHEV and Jaguar’s I-Pace in this segment.
