Jeep wants to roll out EVs at a major level in India after understanding the Indian vehicle market. As per officials, they’re gunning down to achieve 90% localisation in its Jeep Compass compact SUV in the coming three years.

According to a top corporate executive, Jeep, an Indian SUV manufacturer, is focusing on electric vehicles and is considering various choices before deciding on its plans for the local market.

Over the next three years, Jeep India, which is a division of the automotive Stellantis group, said it plans to localize the Jeep Compass compact SUV by over 90%.

At Ranjangaon in the Pune district, the business and Tata Motors have a 50:50 joint venture production facility. We are now researching electrification options for automobiles because the consumer is always at the center of our work and his or her wants must be met. Globally, the EV portfolio has significantly increased. Therefore, we are assessing various options for India, said Aditya Jairaj, Head of Jeep India Operations and Deputy Managing Director of Stellantis India with the unveiling of their newest Jeep Compass 9-speed AT-Diesel in a 4*2 configuration on 16th September, 2023.

This new vehicle is uniquely developed and launched in India. The company officials suggested that they’re right now focussing to achieve 40% localisation over 70% as the current level over their next generation products, which is quite huge in terms of figures.

Aditya Jairaj also commented that, “It is not just localising for India, but it is India for India and India for the world.” Additionally, the company will be majorly focussing on exports as it is one of the key components in deciding strategy for India as it will provide augmented competitive advantage in terms of cost.

Jeep currently secures four vehicles in their portfolio- Compass, Wrangler, Meridian, and Grand Cherokee. From these, Jeep India exports Jeep Meridian and Compass to other countries like Australia, Japan, etc. Currently, the company is exporting these to developed countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

He also suggested,” So exports have to collaborate well with the domestic market in order to be a highly value proposition.” Along with this, he also made a positive remark to continue exports of Meridian and Compass to other countries.

Lastly, he added that these vehicles will also be exported to non-right hand drive markets as that will bring much more opportunities towards the company's doors.
