Jeep Patriot will be a 7-seater version of the Compass SUV

Jeep, the Italian automaker, is all set to reveal the name of its upcoming 7-seater SUV on April 4, 2021. Though, speculations are rife that it would be christened as Jeep Patriot. Ahead of the official unveiling, our friends at Kolesa.ru have released a couple of exterior rendering images of the SUV. Essentially a 7-seater version of the Compass SUV, it will be launched in the Indian market by late 2021 or early 2022. Jeep Patriot will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar in India.

Going by the render images, Jeep Patriot borrows styling cues from the latest company products such as Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. It will flaunt Jeep's signature 7-slat front grille alongside the sweptback headlamps. Other design elements would be carried over from the Compass such as wheel arches, D-pillar glass design and tail-lamp cluster. The interior cabin would also be different from the Compass in terms of upholstery, dashboard design and seats. It has also been learnt that Jeep Patriot will witness an increase in wheelbase as compared to the Compass in order to offer better legroom for the third row occupants. The SUV will bridge the gap between Compass and Wrangler in Jeep's India portfolio.

Under the bonnet, Jeep Patriot will have the same powertrain as the Compass, albeit with increased power output. It will have the 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine at the helm of affairs which will churn out power output in excess of 200bhp. The engine will be married to a 9-speed automatic transmission which will transmit power to all the four wheels via Jeep's AWD system. The rumor mill is abuzz with the introduction of a smaller 1.3L petrol engine as well, which will come with a front-wheel-drive system. The Patriot will be initially launched in developing countries such as India and Brazil. It will be locally manufactured at Jeep's Ranjangaon facility to keep the pricing aggressive.
