Kia Motors is coming up with a new avatar of Sonet with a seven-seater layout and three-row of seats. The new Kia Sonet 7-seater will be unveiled in Indonesia on April 8, but the launch date in India has not been revealed as of now. Yet, it is a moment to cherish as the three-row Sonet will be locally developed at Kia's Ananthpur facility in India. The brand is intending to position the 7-seater Sonet in the sub-compact SUV segment which currently has the likes of Renault Triber and Datsun GO+. The similar popular cars in the Indonesian market are Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia, though they are slightly larger in dimensions.
The dimensions of the new seven-seater Kia Sonet and the standard five-seater version will be the same. In place of two rows, now three rows will be placed that means the third-row seats will be placed behind the second row, which means there will be space constraint for the last row occupants. Furthermore, it will also result in lesser boot space while the legroom will also be cramped for the two adults. The dimensions reveal that it has a compact cabin, but the clear picture of the utilization of space inside the cabin will only be cleared once its officially unveiled. The engine specifications that one can expect from the new SUV will also be similar to the five-seater version, which is available in Indonesia with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox.
Kia Sonet is highly popular in Indonesian car market and the same model, albeit with partially smaller size, is equally popular in the Indian automobile market. Not to mention, both are made-in-India products. These are manufactured at Kia Motors India’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, the seven-seater Kia Sonet will also be made in India, but currently won’t be available on the Indian roads as initially it will only be exported.
