After launching Seltos and Carnival in the Indian market, Kia Motors is back with its third product offering. The company is all set to launch the Sonet subcompact SUV during the festive season this year. The world premiere of the Sonet took place just a few days back. It will be available in two trim levels namely GT Line and Tech Line. Recently, the brochure of Kia Sonet was leaked online ahead of its official launch.
According to the leaked brochure, the sub-compact SUV will come equipped with a plethora of features. These features include the segment’s largest 10.25-inch connected panel type HD touchscreen with infotainment & navigation system. It will be integrated with both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. There will also be a USB, Bluetooth and AUX connectivity. This same touchscreen unit is also available in Kia Seltos. The driver and co-passenger’s seat will be ventilated. This means that the seat will have perforation that can pass cold air through them and keep the seat cool under hot conditions. This particular feature will be seen for the first time in a sub-compact SUV in India.
Kia will also be introducing a PM2.5 air purifier in the Sonet. This vital feature will purify the cabin air and prevent the entry of any viruses. The Smart Pure Air Purifier with virus protection is an added benefit to the SUV in this difficult time when there is an increase in the number of COVID’19 cases. The list of features does not end here. Kia Motors has also equipped Sonet with UVO connected car technology that provides a range of 57 features for convenience, remote control, navigation, safety, security, and vehicle management. Apart from these, there will also be Kia’s UVO voice assist feature with wake word ‘Hello Kia’. Other notable features include an electric sunroof, wireless mobile charging, full LED headlamps & tail-lamps, Tyre pressure monitoring system, multi-drive & traction modes, and front parking sensors among others.
The leaked images of the brochure also reveal that the subcompact SUV will be offered with three engine options. The petrol variant will draw its power from a 1.2-litre engine that delivers 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque, linked to a manual gearbox only. Another one will be a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic gearbox as an option. This engine will deliver 118 bhp power and 172 Nm peak torque. The diesel variant, on the other hand, will be powered by a 1.5-litre oil mill that will produce a maximum power of 99 bhp and 240 Nm torque while coming equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
