Kia Sonet Crosses 35000 Bookings Since Launch

Kia Motors India sells 9266 units of Sonet till date

Kia Motors India recently launched its subcompact SUV, Sonet in the Indian market. The company has reported the highest-ever retail sales in the country last month. Kia Sonet has been a key contributor to the company’s cumulative sales of 18,676 units in the month of September. Talking about New Kia Sonet, it has registered a whopping 9266 unit sales within 12 days of its launch in India. This was followed by the company’s first product in the Indian market, Seltos that registered 9079 units sales last month.

Furthermore, Kia Motors has accumulated over 35000 bookings for the Sonet till date. Kia Seltos also has a strong foothold in the market currently. Apart from the domestic sales, Kia is also keen to make India an export hub with over 70 identified export markets. The company aims to trade 50,000 units of Sonet overseas within the next 12 months.


Commenting on this announcement, Kookhyun Shim, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kia Motors said, “The Indian auto market is recovering at a better-than-expected pace and we are progressing as per our defined plan. Our third product and the first compact SUV in India, the Kia Sonet, has completely transformed its segment. The Sonet embodies Kia’s philosophy of ‘The Power to Surprise’ and that has shown resonance in the marketplace, as seen in the overwhelming response it has received from Indian customers. The sales of our other industry-leading products like Kia Seltos and Carnival are also encouraging, and with this strong product portfolio, we are confident of continuing the positive forward momentum”.

Under the hood, the Kia Sonet is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated motor and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 1.2-litre unit churns out 82 bhp power and 115 Nm torque while being linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the 1.0-litre motor belts out 118 bhp power and 172 Nm torque. This engine can be availed with an iMT gearbox along with a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission as an option. The diesel variants, on the other hand, draw power from a 1.5-litre CRDi motor. This powertrain generates 98 bhp power & 240 Nm torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox and 113 bhp power & 250 Nm peak torque with 6-speed automatic transmission.
