Kia Sonet has finally made its world premiere in India. Being showcased as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo in February, it is the second Kia car after the highly successful Seltos to be entirely 'made in India'. The Sonet has been presented in GT Line trim also with the 1.0L turbo petrol and the 1.5L turbo diesel engines. It debuts a myriad of first-in-segment features in the subcompact SUV segment in the Indian market. It has been learnt that Kia Sonet will be launched during the festive season around September-October 2020 in India.
The subcompact SUV flaunts 'Crown Jewel' automatic LED headlamps with ‘Heartbeat’ shaped LED daytime running lights, projector fog lamps and turn indicators. The inclusion of the 'Turbo' shaped skid plates upfront further accentuate the overall appearance of the Sonet. The rear end boasts of a similar ‘Heartbeat’ LED tail lamp cluster with a wraparound rear-windscreen. Other styling elements at the rear are dual muffler design, diffuser fin rear skid plate and reflector garnish in the tail-lamps. The cabin is packed with a host of advanced features such as Smart Pure Air Purifier with Virus Protection, BOSE Premium 7-speaker System with Subwoofer, Front Driver & Passenger Ventilated Seats, LED Sound Mood Lamps, Remote Engine Start through UVO & Smart Key, and Smartphone Wireless charger with Cooling Function.
The biggest highlight of Kia Sonet is the largest-in-segment 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with UVO connected technology, turn-by-turn navigation and Over-The-Air (OTA) map updates. Even the 4.2-inch all-digital multi-information display looks surreal with the tachometer and other guises. The feature list doesn't end here as Kia has also offered High Line Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Multi Drive Modes, Grip Control and Front Parking Sensors with the subcompact SUV. Now, coming to the GT Line, it gets red stitching on the steering wheel, seats and door armrest. The GT Line badge makes its mark at the black high glossy front grille with red accents. Last but not the least, the D-cut steering wheel is offered as standard too.
Speaking of the safety features, Kia Sonet will come equipped with 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, HAC, VSM and Brake assist, Rear parking sensors and Isofix child anchorages. Mechanically, it will be available with a total of BS6 compliant three engine and five transmission options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol unit with a 5-speed manual and the iMT gearbox, a 1.5L diesel engine with a 6-speed manual and a first-in-segment 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol with an exclusive 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. We have already seen the iMT (AMT) technology with the Hyundai Venue recently. Kia Sonet price is expected to be in range of Rs 7-12 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
