Kia Sonet will have its world premiere of August 7, 2020 in India

Kia Sonet is barely a week or so away from its world premiere which is scheduled for August 7, 2020 in India. However, ahead of the global unveiling, the subcompact SUV has been spotted undisguised during its TVC shoot. Kia Sonet bookings are also said to be starting from August 7 across all the company authorized dealerships while it is expected to launch in September in the Indian market. It will take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300 in the country.

Going by the leaked image, we can clearly see the Sonet in a red shade and it appears to be the GT line trim. The front fascia flaunts the signature Tiger Nose grille while other exterior elements such as silver roof rails, black ORVMs and dual-tone alloy wheels. It has been learnt that Kia Sonet GT Line will be available in two variants: GTX and GTX Plus. Recently, the interior cabin pics of the subcompact SUV were leaked and they clearly indicated that a lot of elements have been sourced from the Seltos SUV such as the steering wheel with audio and cruise control buttons. It carries an all-black upholstery with contrasting red inserts and the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is also borrowed from the Seltos.

Mechanically, Kia Sonet will be offered with three engine choices: a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel engine. The 1.0L petrol engine will be exclusively offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition, the SUV will also have the 6-speed iMT (AMT) gearbox, which debuted recently with the Venue in the Indian market. There will be a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual gearbox on offer too with the petrol and diesel engines as standard. Kia Sonet will be the company's second product after Seltos to be developed locally at the Ananthpur facility in Andhra Pradesh. The prices are expected in range of Rs 7-11 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
