The Korean auto giant is aiming to grab a 15 percent market share in the passenger vehicle segment with the new EV9.

Kia India has declared that its electric three-row EV9 SUV will be unveiled in the Indian market in 2024. The Korean automaker confirmed that, along with the new-gen Carnival MPV, it will also reveal the EV9 SUV in India next year. After the Kia EV6, this new SUV will be the company’s second electric vehicle. The Korean auto giant is aiming to grab a 15 percent market share in the PV segment with its new car. Currently, Tata Motors is a key player in the passenger vehicle segment. The EV9 will be Kia’s first three-row electric vehicle in the mass segment.

Kia also showcased the EV9 during the 2023 Auto Expo in January. Later, the EV was launched in a few international markets, incorporating South Korea. The company earlier declared that the EV9 and two new vehicles would be launched in 2025. The auto giant launched its first electric car in the country in 2022. With the launch of its new EVs, it is aiming to maintain its position in the electric vehicle segment. The Managing Director and CEO at Kia India, Tae-Jin Park, stated that “In 2025 we would initiate local production of a mass segment EV, and then every year we will keep introducing the electric models."

The new EV9 will be based on the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as the EV6. When it comes to size, the EV9 is five meters longer. It will get the same proportion as its international SUV, the Telluride. Kia will offer the new car in two variants: the GT Line and the HT Line, and it will come in six- or seven-seat configurations.

Kia shared that the EV9 will come with a range of up to 541 km in one charge. It will be powered by a 150-kW electric motor that enables the EV to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.4 seconds. The EV9 will also get an RWD version, which is more robust than the 160-kW e-motor. The EV9 will get an 800-volt electrical architecture that promises the car to get charged at an ultra-fast speed.

The EV9 GT-Line variant will come with 3-level ADAS, which allows hands-free driving on highways via its top-of-the-line feature, the highway driving pilot. To give the driver a full 360-degree field of view, Kia is offering the ADAS, which will have 15 sensors, including cameras, two lidars, and radar. Kia has also confirmed that the Carnival MPV will also make its comeback in the market sometime next year. The Carnival MPV was discontinued from the market in the initial months of this year due to stricter emission norms.
