Mahindra & Mahindra is working on a more powerful turbo petrol engine that will be a part of the mStallion family. We can expect this new gasoline motor to make its debut in 2021 with the Thar. The details of this new engine are still under wraps, but we can expect it to be more powerful and faster than the Thar’s existing gasoline motor. With this new engine, Thar’s speed might increase from 150 kmph to 180 kmph.
Currently, the Thar is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol unit. The motor churns out a top power of 150bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. The off-roader SUV also comes with a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel unit. The engine generates 130 bhp power and 320 Nm torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit.
Recently, Mahindra had increased the prices of the off-roader SUV. The price increase has been in the range of Rs 4500 - Rs 40,000 depending on the variant. After the price hike, the SUV falls in the price range of Rs 12.10 lakhs - Rs 14.15 lakhs (ex-showroom). Besides these, the next-gen Thar has bagged over 6500 bookings in the month of December 2020 despite the long waiting period. Furthermore, the maximum number of bookings is for the LX automatic variant. Also, in the coming months, the home-grown automaker will roll out the new-gen Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio in the Indian market.
