Mahindra Thar has received a good response with its bookings crossing the 20,000 mark since its launch in the Indian market. The waiting period of the off-roader has now increased to 9 months. The reason being the production capacity has increased by 50 percent more than what was initially planned for the 2020 Mahindra Thar. Thus due to production constraints, customers will have to wait for their Thar. The first unit of the SUV was delivered on the 1st of November. Apart from this, over 500 more units were dispatched to customers during the Diwali season. Due to an increase in demand, the manufacturer is planning to ramp up production at its Nashik facility.
Mahindra launched the all-new Thar in October this year. The SUV was initially offered in two variants - AX and LX. But last month, the company has silently axed the base AX trim from its official website. Currently, the top-end LX trim is the only variant that is on sale. The price of the SUV now starts from Rs 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). In terms of design, the SUV features a square-shaped grille upfront. In addition, it also gets round-shaped headlamps integrated with LED DRLs and dual-tone finished front bumpers. On the sides, it offers 18-inch alloy wheels.
Performance-wise, the Thar is equipped with two engine options. A 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, mStallion TGDi petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 150 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. There is also a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel engine that delivers 130 bhp power and 320 Nm torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The SUV is designed keeping in mind the safety of occupants as its top-most priority. Recently, Mahindra Thar was awarded a 4-Star Rating for Safety by Global NCAP. The test was conducted in Germany. The All-New Thar received the highest-ever rating for a body-on-frame chassis and second-highest point in child safety.
