Mahindra XUV300 Petrol Automatic launch is finally happening in February 2021. The exact date would be clarified in the coming days but the new model would enhance the XUV300 line-up in the domestic market. First arrived in 2019 and quickly became one of Mahindra’s best-selling units in the country. Now, the manufacturer is adding a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with an automatic gearbox. A few days back, India manufactured Mahindra XUV300 became the first car in Africa to receive a 5-star rating by Global NCAP. This illustrates the SUV’s reputation as one of the safest cars plying on the Indian roads as well.

As we wait for official confirmation, we can expect the petrol automatic model to be priced at a premium of Rs 60,000- Rs 70,000 over the petrol manual model which retails at Rs 10.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With an automatic option, Mahindra XUV300 will give stiff competition to rivals likes of Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon in the Indian market.

Talking about the XUV300, it comes loaded with features like L-shaped DRLs, skid plates at the front and real, sporty LED taillights. The upcoming SUV is likely to remain the same in terms of design. However, it will get minor updates in terms of features. The manufacturer would offer an all-new colour scheme for the interior alongside an update in the dashboard layout. Further, there might be minor software updates in the infotainment system to give a seamless experience to the users. As usual, the buyers can look forward to features like dual-zone automatic AC, electric sunroof, 7-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, steering mounted controls. Safety equipment on-board the SUV are 7 airbags (First-In-Segment), 4 parking sensors, rear parking camera, ESP, ABS with EBD, front fog lamps among many others.

Currently, Mahindra XUV300 comes with two engine options- 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit and 1.5-lite diesel motor. The former belts out 108.5 bhp of maximum power output and 200Nm of peak torque while the latter produces 115 bhp of output and 300Nm of torque. 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard for both engine units but the 6-speed automatic gearbox is reserved for a diesel model only. Addition of automatic transmission in the petrol model was highly required considering Mahindra’s XUV300 rivals were offering the same.

Post XUV300, there are further expectations of new-gen Mahindra XUV500 arriving in April 2021. It will be followed by all-new Mahindra Scorpio later in the second half of the year.
