Mahindra XUV700 will boast of the most powerful petrol and diesel engines in the entire 7-seater SUV segment

Mahindra XUV700 is inching closer to its official launch in the Indian market. However, prior to that, it has been learnt that the brand's new flagship SUV will boast of the most powerful petrol and diesel engines in the entire 7-seater SUV segment. Mahindra XUV700 will rival the likes of Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar in India while replacing the XUV500 in Mahindra's portfolio. Identical to its foes, it will also be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations as standard. The official launch is slated for October 2021.

Mahindra XUV700 petrol variants will be offered with the 2.0L mStallion engine which debuted at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be the most powerful iteration of this 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with power output exceeding 200 bhp. This engine will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission will be available as option. Coming to the diesel variants, they will be powered by a 2.2L turbocharged mHawk engine which will deliver maximum power of around 185 bhp. The diesel variants of Hyundai Alcazar use a 1.5L engine with power output of 113 bhp while Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus come with the same Fiat-sourced 2.0L mtor which churns out 170 bhp. Thus, the Mahindra XUV700 with power output around 185 bhp will be the most powerful SUV in the segment.

As for styling, the SUV will flaunt an upright grille, C-shaped headlamp units with LED DRLs and LED taillamps as standard. A special mention goes to the best-in-segment flush door handles. Being based on the W601 monocoque platform, Mahindra XUV700 will debut several first-in-segment features like sensor-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Auto Booster Headlamps, Large Panoramic Sunroof, Electronic Parking Brake and multiple Drive Modes. The SUV will get a massive dual-screen setup for infotainment system and instrument cluster. It is being believed that Mahindra might introduce a luxurious 5-seater version of the SUV as well at a later stage. We told you last week that Mahindra XUV700 production will start by the end of July or early August 2021 at Chakan facility in Pune.
