The sales reports for the month of June show that India’s largest carmaker Maruti has managed to sell 8,871 units of the Vitara Brezza.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is one among the largest selling SUVs of India and the largest selling SUV of the brand. Now the sales reports for the month of June are in and India’s largest maker has managed to sell 8,871 units of the Vitara Brezza. Taking this in contrast with Hyundai’s Creta, the South Korean maker’s SUV that managed to dethrone Brezza from the top selling SUV spot in May, the Creta dispatch units stand at 8,334. However, the real challenge for Vitara Brezza will come from Hyundai Venue that has managed to bring in a number of 8,763 units for the company. This can be an alarm bell for Maruti as the number is dangerously close to Brezza dispatch units. If the trend continues in future, there may come a time when Venue dethrones Brezza in monthly sales, especially when we see at the sales of Brezza for June 2018, which shows a fall of 17% in sales. However, one must take note that the Venue is still a very new SUV in the market and the sales numbers for the SUV will only stabilise from here.

Although Maruti will be wary and may start offering more discounts on the Brezza in coming times, especially since the auto industry is witnessing an overall slowdown. What is also to be taken into context is Maruti’s decision to discontinue diesel engine in their models in the BS-VI regime. Therefore, sooner or later the largest carmaker of India will have to roll out the petrol version of the sub-4-meter compact SUV Brezza in the Indian market. The company can also offer a mild-hybrid engine with the petrol option, but that remains only speculation as of now. However, if the mild hybrid option is brought out, we can see the Vitara Brezza being launched in the market with an engine borrowed from Ciaz or Ertiga.

Talking of the current Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, as of now it is only offered with a 1.3L diesel engine rated to deliver 89 Bhp and 200 Nm. The transmission duties here are handled by a 5-speed manual box or a 5-speed AMT unit. The upcoming petrol option could be a 1.5L 4-cylinder K-Series unit rated to deliver 104 Bhp and 138 Nm. The petrol mild hybrid is offered with 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox options on other models of the company. The same is likely to be carried over to the petrol version of Brezza as well.

Now talking of the nearest challenger for Brezza, the Venue comes with a new 1 liter 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine rated to deliver 120 PS and 175 Nm, this engine has been developed by the company in-house. This new engine comes with a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox and a 6-speed manual. As far as the other engines are concerned, there are two more options with the first one being a 1.2 L petrol rated for 82 PS and 114 Nm and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second one is a 1.4L turbo diesel engine rated for 90 PS and 220 Nm and mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
