The spotted unit near Manesar is said to be the 3-door Maruti Jimny Sierra variant

We have been bringing you all the latest updates regarding the launch of upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the Indian market. In the latest development, the 3-door version of the SUV has been spotted testing for the first time in the country. The test mule was spied near the company's production facility in Manesar, Haryana. The spotted unit is said to be the 3-door Jimny Sierra variant. Maruti Suzuki has already cleared its intention of making India the sole production hub for both the 3-door and 5-door versions of the SUV, of which the former will be exported worldwide while the latter will be exclusive for India.

Speaking about the Maruti Jimny 5-door version, it has been learnt that the country's largest automaker might co-develop it with Toyota. Both the companies had joined hands last year under which both had agreed to exchange vehicles and leverage on each others strengths. We have already seen two vehicles emerging out of this partnership in the form of Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser, which are basically the cross-badged versions of Maruti Baleno and Maruti Vitara Brezza, respectively, sans any major cosmetic or mechanical change. Now, on the similar lines, it has been reported that Maruti Jimny 5-door might share its platform with Toyota Raize which is already sold in several international markets.

Mechanically, the India-spec Maruti Jimny will be powered by a BS6 compliant 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine which we have already seen in several of the company vehicles such as the Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and S-Cross. The power output and torque performance are likely to be same at 103bhp and 138Nm, respectively. The engine would be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while could also be a 4-speed automatic transmission as optional. Maruti Jimny will be a rear-wheel-drive vehicle with a selectable all-wheel-drive system. Maruti Jimny price in India is likely to be under Rs 10 Lakhs as the company is aiming for higher localization level through its existing vendors and suppliers.
