2019, in general, is considered a bad year for automobile companies with almost everyone reporting a decline in sales. 2020 is also following the suit with the Coronavirus pandemic resulting in the closure of dealerships and shutting down of production. The automotive companies like Maruti had launched BS6 vehicles as the country was making a transition from BS4 norms to a more stringent BS6 emission norms. The country's biggest automaker plans to sell off the unsold BS4 stock which hit a roadblock due to the nationwide restrictions. With the unsold BS4 inventory, Maruti is offering massive discounts and benefits to liquidate it.
There are expectations of a rise in demand for vehicles once the COVID-19 ends as consumers would prefer personal vehicles over public commutation due to safety concerns. Maruti Suzuki is offering discounts up to Rs 25,00 on various BS4 and BS6 models in May 2020. Depending on the stocks available with various dealerships, customers can get discounts on BS4 models also.
The Alto 800 and S-Presso are Maruti Suzuki's entry-level models in the Indian market. Maruti Alto is one of the best-selling models while it is available with a discount of up to Rs 20,000. Maruti S-Presso can also be purchased with a discount of Rs 20,000. In the hatchback segment, Maruti WagonR gets a discount of Rs 10,000 while Maruti Celerio also gets a net discount of Rs 25,000.
The Maruti Eeco gets discounts and benefits of up to Rs 10,000. The Maruti Swift is one of the most popular hatchbacks in the Indian market and gets discounts up to Rs 20,000. The BS6 Maruti Dzire can be availed at a discount of Rs 20,000 in the Indian market while the BS4 Dzire model gets a discount of Rs 25,000. Maruti Suzuki is also offering a wide range of discounts and benefits on its Maruti Tour (Dzire taxi) models. The S, H1 and H2 variants are being offered with discounts of Rs 15,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively. Other Variants such as ‘V AC’ petrol and ‘V AC’ CNG get discounts of Rs 10,000 each. The Eeco-based ‘Maruti Tour V STD’ model is available with discounts of Rs 10,000.
