Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is all set to be unveiled in January 2022. But it not what all you have been thinking about but a hardcore version of the popular off-roader which has been developed by the students at Nihon Automotive Technology School (NATS) in Japan. The NATS project is supposed to be a one-off concept version while the original Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is still a few months away from making its official debut. It is expected to measure under 4 meters in length and could carry the brand's trusted 1.5L petrol motor under the hood.

The Jimny 5-door by NATS boasts of very little stock things of the original off-roader, predominantly the bodyshell. The platform is customized to increase its length by approx 400 mm while a modified body sits on top of it. It gets custom fabricated rear doors while the rear window has been replaced by smaller quarter windows. The seats are retained from the original model with the rear legroom more than the 3-door model. Though boot space is compromised due to the inclusion of rear seats. The students have also revised the front bumper while replacing the original wheels and suspension with a more heavy duty off-road centric set-up. The 5-door version comes with broader fender extensions to accommodate the SUV's wider track.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door by the students at NATS will be showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2022. In addition to the plethora of cosmetic changes, the off-roader also gets a mechanical upgrade as the petrol engine has been equipped with an aftermarket turbocharger kit to accentuate the overall performance. Maruti Suzuki has included Jimny as one out of the five planned products for the Indian markets in the next three years. It is almost confirmed that India would be the first market globally to receive the 5-door version. Though the possibilities of the 3-door version going on sale alongside cannot be ruled out either. It will directly rival Force Gurkha in the country.
