Maruti Suzuki Jimny Lite will go on sale in Australia in August this year

Maruti Suzuki has officially revealed Jimny Lite, which is a more affordable version of the standard model. The new Jimny Lite will be produced in Japan and will be introduced in the Australian market first. The SUV is slated to go on sale in August this year. As per the name, the new base-spec variant will be light on its equipment with less no of features so as to bring down the price. We do not have enough information regarding the India launch. As of now, the Japanese automaker is working on the five-door version of Jimny, which is likely to make its global debut next year followed by the India launch.

Design-wise, the new Jimny Lite looks similar to the regular Jimny model. However, the new variant will ride on the 15-inch steel rims dipped in black instead of alloy wheels. Besides these, the SUV also gets blacked-out ORVMs. Upfront, it features halogen units instead of projector headlamps. A spare wheel cover and fog lamps as seen on the standard-spec Jimny has been removed from the new Lite variant.

Inside the cabin of the Jimny Lite, it gets a minimalistic setup in comparison to the regular variant. The 7-inch Smartplay infotainment unit has been replaced by the standard 2-DIN audio system with USB and Bluetooth Connectivity. Furthermore, the automatic climate control unit has been ditched for a manual air conditioner. While the cruise control feature has been removed. Moving on, the instrument console gets the same concentric dials for the speedometer and tachometer. It misses out on the digital MID in between the dials.

Performance-wise, the new Jimny Lite continues to draw power from the same 1.5-litre K-series, naturally-aspirated petrol unit as present in the regular Jimny. The motor churns out 101 bhp power and 130 Nm peak torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This particular variant does not get an automatic transmission. However, it does retain the 4WD functionality with a low range transfer case.
