Maruti Suzuki Jimny’s first consignment of 184 units exported to Latin American countries.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced the export of its compact off-roader Jimny from India. Talking about the first shipment, 184 units have left from Mundra Port to Latin American countries like Peru and Columbia. Besides Latin America, the three-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will also be exported to the Middle East and African Markets from India.

Due to the large customer demand worldwide for this model, the Indian manufacturing unit of Maruti Suzuki will supplement capacity to meet the global demand for the model. The automaker has not revealed any details regarding the India launch of Jimny yet. It was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo last year.

“Jimny will fulfill aspirations of customers throughout the world. Jimny manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant shares the same specification as the export models produced at the Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Kosai plant in Japan. We are confident with Jimny we will be able to enhance our overall exports,” commented Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited on this announcement.

In terms of dimensions, the iconic Jimny is 3645mm long, 1645mm wide, and 1720mm tall. Under the bonnet, Jimny will be offered with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 4-speed automatic torque converter unit as an option. This engine also powers other Maruti cars like Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, and the Ciaz. The powerplant churns out a maximum power of 103 bhp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. Once launched, the off roader will rival the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in the Indian market.
