Maruti Suzuki Swift Maintains its Top Spot in the Indian Market

Since its launch in 2015, Maruti Swift has been a dominant player in the hatchback segment in India

Maruti Suzuki Swift becomes one of the best-selling cars in the Indian market for the calendar year 2020. It is one of the models requiring a high demand for Maruti Suzuki in recent years, has hit a cumulative 23-lakh sales milestone since its launch back in 2015. In 2020, the homegrown manufacturer sold over 1.6 lakh units of Swift despite the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 outbreak in India. Since its launch, Swift has been a dominant player in the hatchback segment in the domestic market. The hatchback took just 5 years to reach the 5 lakh sales mark by 2010 and, doubled this to 10 lakh by 2013. The next 5 lakh sales took just 5 years.

The sporty Maruti Suzuki Swift with its styling and engine performance is the only car to win the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award 3 times for each of its generations. Also, more than 53 percent of its customers are below the age of 35 years illustrating the appeal of Maruti Suzuki Swift among the Indian buyers. Swift’s distinctive look comprises of sweptback LED headlamps, an aggressive front grille and cockpit-style interiors that separate it from the competition. It currently retails at a price tag of Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom), India. It is powered by a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine with an ARAI certified mileage of 21.21 kmpl. Transmission options here consist of a manual gearbox as well as an automatic.
