Maruti Suzuki Swift becomes top selling model in May 2019.

A while ago, it was Alto, then came the turn of Dzire, but now Maruti Suzuki Swift has taken the title of India's best selling car. The sales figures for May are in and they show that the Alto could only manage a dispatch number of 16,394 while the Dzire came at the third place in the company's line-up at 16,196 units. It was the Swift that occupied the top spot in the market with a dispatch number of a total of 17,039 units. These new figures go on to show that even an year after a model replacement, the Swift continues to attract a large number of customers to the showrooms and remains one of the top choices in the market. Maruti Suzuki Swift locks horns with Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo in the Indian market. Out of the latter two, the Ford Figo was recently updated and the Grand i10 is supposed to get a major update in the coming months of 2019.

The last major update that the Swift got in the Indian market was just last year and ever since the hatch has been a crowd favourite. The new update brought the company's light and strong HEARTECT platform to the car that not only made the Swift more strong, it also led to a lot of the weight of the car being shed hence giving the hatch better mileage and performance.

Maruti Suzuki also uses the HEARTECT platform for Dzire and WagonR. This new platform from the brand comes with high tensile steel that is both lighter and stronger than before. Therefore, the use of this platform in the cars by the brand makes them better than before.

Coming back to the Swift, the largest automaker of India did not make any changes to the engine of the car when it introduced the third generation model of the same in the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki Swift's petrol version still comes with a 1.2L 4 pot engine rated to deliver 82 Bhp and 113 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel version of the car comes with a 1.3L unit sourced from Fiat and is rated to deliver 74 Bhp and 190 Nm. The two engines come mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 5 speed AMT is also available as an option on both the engines. The prices for Maruti Suzuki Swift start from Rs. 4.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi for petrol version while the diesel range of Swift starts from Rs. 5.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
