Maruti and the Department of Transport will build and maintain the centres for three years.

A new Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed by Maruti and the Department of Transport states that they will set-up 12 new high-tech driving test centres. The investment will total to Rs 15 crore.

This new test centre will consist of test tracks, high-def cameras and an IT system. The carmaker will also maintain the test centres for three years while in use by the Transport Department to conduct tests to issue licenses. The test centres will be built in a phased manner and be given over to the Transport Department, who will begin operations on them. The cameras will be used to monitor and assess the student’s driving skills.

At the moment, Maruti has close to 430 driving schools where they operate with the help of Maruti Dealerships across the country. Six of these schools even have driving simulators. In the beginning phase of development, these Automated Driving Test Centres will be built at Hauz Khas, Shakur Basti, Raja Garden, Hari Nagar, Burari, Loni Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Rohini, Jharoda Kalan, Mayur Vihar Phase I, Surajmal Vihar and Dwarka.
