Maruti Suzuki has the highest number of 8 vehicles in the list of top 10

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has emerged as the best-selling car of India in the passenger vehicle segment in fiscal 2022. The tallboy hatchback occupied the top position by leaving behind the likes of Alto, Swift and Baleno. Maruti Suzuki has the highest number of 8 vehicles in the list of top 10 while Hyundai and Tata Motors grabbed one spot each. The two cars to drop out of the list from the last fiscal were Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Maruti Suzuki heavily dominated the list by bagging the top 5 spots with its entry-level range of cars.

Maruti Wagon R has been on sale for the last 23 years in the Indian market. It registered a growth of 18 percent with sales of 188,838 units which is its best ever in a fiscal. The second spot was filled by Maruti Swift which had ended the monopoly of the Alto after 16 consecutive years. The third spot and fourth spot were captured by Maruti Baleno and Maruti Alto, respectively. The Dzire had to remain content with the fifth spot and surprisingly, there was no SUV at the top 5 positions. "Sales of Wagon R have been boosted due to CNG which accounts for nearly 40 percent of the numbers. All the top five best selling cars in India are small cars which indicates their importance in the market even with all the noise around SUVs," said Shashank Srivastava, executive director, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
