Yesterday was a landmark day in the Indian automotive market with the launch of fully electric Mercedes Benz EQC SUV at Rs 99.30 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). It heralds a new chapter in the Indian EV segment with the arrival of the country's first luxury electric SUV. The German luxury automaker claims a driving range of 400 kms on a full charge for the EQC. The luxury electric SUV takes 10 hours for the battery to get a full charge if one is using an AC wall box charger. The charging time reduces drastically if one charges the car with a DC fast charger. In that case, it takes just 90 minutes to get the battery charge going from 10-100 per cent. The icing on the cake is the EQC’s battery warranty cover of 8 years.
The luxury EV is powered by an 80KWH lithium-ion battery. The powerful battery unit will power the two asynchronous motors, one is placed on each axle. The EQC delivers an enormous power output of 408 bhp and 765 Nm of peak torque. It takes just 5.1 seconds to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 5.1 seconds with top speed electronically limited to 180kmph.
Mercedes Benz fully electric EQC SUV is based on the same platform as the GLC crossover. At the front, the piano black grille bordered by LED twin headlamps stands out. The rear profile sports sleek looking tail lamps connected by the continuous light band and bumper with chrome garnish. A new set of 19-inch alloy wheels with shades of blue stand out in the EV. in the interior, there is a premium feel due to ribbed finish on the door pads, air vents with bronze inserts and completely new fabric upholstery. Features on-board the SUV are a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, latest MBUX touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, blind-spot monitoring and wireless charger among others. There are 5 driving modes available- Eco, Comfort, Max Range, Sport, and Individual.
The fully electric Mercedes Benz EQC SUV is available at an introductory price of Rs 99.30 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) for the first 50 buyers. The EV will be sold initially in 6 Indian cities- Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi.
Mercedes Benz is setting up 100 plus charging stations in over 48 cities in the country. The automaker has stolen a march over rival companies like Audi and BMW by launching EQC here.
