The Indian automobile market is finally going to see the launch of Mercedes Benz GLS in India on the 17th of June 2020. The German Automaker had originally planned to launch the flagship SUV in the first quarter of 2020 but now it is expected to get launched on the 17th of June 2020. This delay can be attributed to the Coronavirus Pandemic sweeping across the globe. The launch of GLS SUV follows the recent digital launch of Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe and GT R Coupe in India just a few days ago. It is being described as the S-Class of an SUV, second-generation GLS will be a direct rival to the BMW X7. Expected to be priced around Rs 90 Lakhs (ex-showroom), India, it’s a second-generation model. In fact Martin Schwenk, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes Benz India recently released a teaser image of this SUV on his personal Instagram account showcasing the arrival of the premium SUV at the Chakan factory in Pune.
The second-generation Mercedes GLS SUV will arrive in India via the CKD (completely knocked down) route at the automaker's manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune for assembly. 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV is going to be a head-turner in terms of design, features and performance. The New Mercedes Benz GLS is longer and wider than the predecessor and is packed with features like heated seats, five-zone automatic climate control, MBUX infotainment system, two 11.6-inch touchscreens in the rear rows among many others. The dashboard comes with a large single unit touchscreen display with split screens for the infotainment system and the driver instrument cluster.

In terms of safety features, Mercedes Benz GLS SUV comes with nine airbags, active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring among other features. Mercedes GLS is expected to come with two engine options- GLS 350d 4Matic diesel and the 450 4Matic turbo petrol. The BS6 2.9-litre, inline diesel engine is expected to churn out 281hp of maximum power outoput and 600Nm of peak torque. While the GLS 450 is powered by a BS6 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine delivering 362hp power with 500Nm of peak torque. Both the petrol and diesel variants would be coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel-drive system.
