Mercedes Benz India is all set to introduce the first SUV from the Mercedes-Maybach luxury brand, GLS 600 4Matic on June 8, 2021, via a virtual conference. The SUV is expected to arrive as a CBU import in the country. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Maserati Levante, Bentley Bentayga, and the Range Rover Autobiography.
Cosmetically, the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic features a large Maybach-styled chrome grille with sleek LED headlamps on either end. The grille also features finely curved trim strips on both ends for additional embellishment. The bumper gets a high-gloss black paint finish along with a chrome underguard. The sculpted lines on the bonnet are similar to the ones on the regular GLS. On the sides, the SUV gets chrome surrounds on the windows. The B-pillar gets chrome inserts, while the D-pillar gets the brand logo. The rear end boasts of sporty LED tail lamps.
Moving inside the cabin of the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic, it boasts of Nappa leather upholstery and chrome detailing on the air vents. The dashboard is dominated by dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation. The screens get the Maybach-specific graphics. Other feature highlights include an electronic panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof with opaque roller blinds and ventilated seats. The SUV only gets two rows of seats. The rear seats are positioned a full 120mm back in comparison to the middle row in standard GLS.
Performance-wise, the upcoming Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic will draw its power from a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with a 48-volt onboard electrical system and integrated starter-alternator. The engine will generate a maximum power of 550bhp and a peak torque of 730 Nm while being mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. An additional 21 bhp power and 250 Nm torque will be available via the EQ boost.
