The German carmaker will reveal a new electric hatchback concept at the Frankfurt motor show. This new car will build on the company’s EQ electric car sub-brand.
The new hatch is currently undergoing construction at Mercedes’ in-house prototype workshop in Stuttgart. The EV will preview the German carmaker’s planned entry-level EQ A, which will go on sale in 2020 as part of a full line-up of electric cars.
This car will be a direct competitor to BMW’s i3 the production version of Volkswagen’s upcoming I.D. Mercedes-Benz is currently developing ten electric cars (which will go on sale by 2025) as part of an £8.6 billion (approximately ₹71,389 crore) programme.
Merc’s EQ A hatchback is expected to be the volume seller of the EQ line-up. This car is based on the company’s modular electric architecture (MEA) platform, and will, just like the EQ C, adopt a conventional silhouette, with a defined bonnet line at the front, a traditional glasshouse housing a five-seat cabin and a hatchback-style tailgate at the rear.
