MG Gloster will come with many first-in-segment while sold as a CBU in India

MG Motor is making substantial progress in the Indian automobile market with the recent launch of Hector Plus SUV at an introductory price of Rs 13.48 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). The company has now released the teaser video of the much anticipated Gloster premium SUV on its YouTube channel. It had unveiled the Gloster SUV at the Auto Expo 2020 in February earlier this year. The iconic British Brand didn’t disclose any information about the India-spec model at the Auto Expo, but the recently released teaser video gives us ample hints. MG Gloster will come packed with some of the segment-first features.

Indian-spec MG Gloster will come with several exciting features like sensor-based automatic cruise control, lane change assist, parallel parking assist and autonomous emergency braking. If we ignore the parking assist, all the features mentioned above are segment-first for the Indian market. MG Gloster production started in 2017 and is sold internationally under the parent company SAIC Group’s Maxus brand. It is sold in China under the name Maxus D90 while retailed in other markets as LDV D90. Also, MG Gloster electric is sold under the name Maxus Euniq 9.

We might not be able to know how many features from Maxus D90 will be retained in the India-spec MG Gloster but we expect most of them to be present. Maxus D90 is sold in China with two engine options - 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. MG Gloster is expected to come with the same engine and transmission option In India. There is a huge demand for diesel SUV models so Gloster SUV is going to bring the diesel unit. MG Gloster will measure 5 metres plus in length. It will challenge the likes of Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.

The launch date isn’t clear at the moment but we can expect the MG Gloster launch during the festive season. Automakers often prefer to bring new models during the festive period in the Indian market.
