India is one of the largest automobile markets in the world with a number of manufacturers vying for market share. MG Motor India made its entrance in the domestic market last year in June with the Hector SUV. They also introduced the ZS Electric and Hector Plus SUV's as we await the launch of the premium MG Gloster SUV in the coming days. Chances are high of their most affordable vehicle ZS Petrol launch in 2021, it is expected to be priced below Rs 10 lakhs.
It is just not the arrival of new models, we recently came across spy shots of MG Hector Diesel Automatic variant. A YouTube Vblogger by the name of Barodian boy Jatin uploaded spied images of the Hector Diesel Automatic near the manufacturer’s plant in Vadodra, Gujarat. BS6 MG Hector Diesel was launched in the country earlier this year in May with only the manual transmission option. During that time, the company did clarify that it could perhaps look at introducing a dual-clutch transmission in the coming months. In the video below, you can easily spot new set of 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a revamped front grille. Apart from that, there are no significant differences between the Hector manual and automatic variant. As for the interiors, there is not much information as to whether or not this particular variant will offer any upgrades over the manual model.
Currently, the MG Hector Diesel is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine churning out 168 bhp of maximum power output and 350 Nm of peak torque. Expect the automatic variant to be priced at a premium of Rs 1 Lakh over the manual model. Looking at the overall pricing, Hector SUV base model is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), India with the top two trims- Smart and Sharp priced at Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 17.88 lakh (ex-showroom), India respectively. Our guess is that the automatic gearbox would be available with the top-end diesel trims of Hector in the price range of Rs 17.60 lakhs to Rs 19 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. The price would be competitive considering that Tata Harrier Diesel Automatic is retailed between Rs 16.40 to Rs 20.30 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. Other competitors like Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta Diesel Automatic models are priced in the range of Rs 13.69 lakhs to 17.34 lakhs and Rs 15.99 lakhs to Rs 17.20 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.
