MG Motor is offering CVT automatic gearbox option with Hector petrol variants only

MG Motor launched Hector back in 2019 in the country. The mid-size SUV is the only car in India that comes with two automatic gearboxes for the same engine. Having said that, the British automaker has now dropped the DCT option from both Hector and Hector Plus petrol models. Furthermore, the variants are no longer available to order on MG Motor India’s official website.

MG Hector is offered with three powertrain options - petrol, diesel, and hybrid, in the Indian market. The mid-size SUV received an overwhelming response at the time of its launch. Talking about in detail, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine came with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed DCT gearbox options. But in early 2021, the aforementioned engine received an 8-speed CVT automatic gearbox option. The British carmaker recalled 14000 units of the BS6 Hector DCT last year in August. The main reason was the emission issue. All the buyers who are interested in purchasing the Hector automatic will now be catered to with the CVT version. The CVT gearbox is offered in a total of three trims of the 5-seater Hector namely Shine, Smart, and Sharp. It is further offered in two trims of the 6-seater Hector Plus - Smart and Sharp. However, the CVT gearbox is not available with the 7-seater Hector Plus.

Performance-wise, the 2021 MG Hector is available with three engine options - petrol, diesel, and hybrid. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine churns out a top power of 142 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. This particular engine is now offered with manual and CVT automatic gearbox only. If you opt for the 48V mild-hybrid system then you will get a manual gearbox. The bigger 2.0-litre diesel engine is capable of returning 169 bhp power and 350 Nm peak torque. The motor here is mated to a manual gearbox only.
