MG Motor had already communicated their plans about brining electric vehicles to India and now in the bid to take things further, the Chinese-owned British brand has presented their eZS electric SUV on a global level. As the brand had already made clear, the new electric SUV will be launched in India some time later this year and will the second product from the company to hit India markets. The first car that the brand will notably launch in India will be the Hector SUV. The upcoming electric SUV eZS will not be sold only in India rather, it will also be on sale in other markets such as the UK, Australia, Germany and the Middle East.
MG Motor India’s president and managing director Rajeev Chaba spoke about the unveiling of their eZS electric SUV and said,
With a modern design and advanced technology, the MG eZS will herald a new chapter in environment-friendly solutions in India. While the petrol version of the MG ZS had already become a popular choice globally, we are confident that its zero-emissions electric equivalent will bring accessible electric motoring to the customers in India upon its launch by the end of this year. We hope by the time we launch the vehicle; the government would have announced the much-needed subsidies and incentives for the EVs under the recently announced FAME II scheme so that the people are encouraged to by the environmentally friendly mobility solutions. More details about the specifications and features of the eZS will be announced at a later stage.
There is very little knowledge about the mechanicals of the upcoming electric SUV as the company has not revealed any details yet. Although, the upcoming MG eZS could come with a range in the vicinity of 250 kilometers on a single charge. Similar to the upcoming Hector SUV, the eZS electric car will also come with a connected layout and will feature over-the-air (OTA) updates. Like the MG Hector, the eZS will also feature MG's iSmart Next-Gen connected technology that will provide smart application, built-in Apps, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Features, Voice Assist, and Infotainment.
The upcoming car will be launched as a premium product. As of now there are no premium fully electric cars present in India and only Mahindra has the E2O hatch and Verito sedan in the electric car segment in India and they are far from premium products. MG eZS will be a compact SUV and will face no rivalry upon its arrival in India as the electric vehicle market is nearly empty. The other makers are still working on their products and we may get to see more cars in the electric segment in the future.
MG plans on pricing the upcoming electric SUV eZS very aggressively in India and one should not be surprised to see the car come with a s hocking sticker price. MG will initially import the eZS in the Indian market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and production of the electric SUV will begin at brand’s Halol plant as per the future demand.
