Morris Garrage successfully created a stir for its first SUV called MG Hector earlier this year. The Hector SUV got a warm reception among Indian car buyers. The SUV will be followed by its electric variant SUV called ZS EV.
MG ZS EV SUV has scored a full 5-star rating in the recently conducted Europe NCAP crash tests. The company claimed that the same model will arrive to the Indian shores as well. The Euro NCAP rating is given for both variants of the MG ZS EV – the Excite and Exclusive that are offered with a single battery pack which is a 44.5kWh unit for European markets.
The SUV scored 34.5 out of 38 points for adult occupancy protection while for the child occupancy protection, the SUV got 41.7 points out of 49 points. The SUV was given 31 points out of 64 points for the vulnerable road users while it scored 9.2 points out of 13 points for the safety assist system category.
The SUV got a full 5-star rating due to its safety equipment like six airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters, speed assist, lane keep assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for pedestrians and cyclists as standard.
However, it must be noted that the model to be launched in India won’t have the AEB system or lane keep assist systems.
The Indian spec ZS EV will be powered by a 44.5kWh battery with a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that has an IP67 rating. After the launch in early 2020, the MG ZS EV will be available for 5 cities initially that are Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
Once launched MG’s electric SUV will face competition from Hyundai Kona Electric.
