MG Motor India is planning to launch the petrol derivative of ZS EV in the first half of next year. The model has been spotted doing test runs on a couple of occasions earlier. Recently, it was spied once again under heavy camouflage in Vadodara, Gujarat. The spy shots for the same have been leaked online.
Despite being under heavy camouflage, some design elements of the upcoming MG ZS petrol were clearly visible in these spy shots. Upfront, the SUV features angular sleek LED projector headlamps. The revised front bumper gives the vehicle a sharper look. The ZS petrol provides a honeycomb mesh grille instead of the 3D spoked grille available with the ZS EV. Furthermore, the test mule is seen flaunting a pair of auxiliary taillights. The MG’s octagonal logo embossed within the front grille and the rear boot lid could easily be identified from these images. The model also catered to roof rails, ORVMs with turn indicators, and a rear skid plate.
Since there is no image of the interior so we have no idea about what the cabin of the ZS petrol will look like. But going by the international-spec model, we can expect the ZS petrol SUV to get a spacious cabin with premium leather upholstery. The SUV might also get features like a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, MG iSmart connectivity tech, digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, air purifier among many others.
Under the bonnet, the upcoming MG ZS petrol is likely to get two gasoline engine options. First could be a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit that generates 120 bhp power and 150 Nm torque. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. There could also be a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine in the offering that develops 163 bhp of maximum power output with 230 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain here will be linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with CVT as an option.
MG Motor India will position the ZS petrol below Hector in its product portfolio. As for the price, the upcoming MG ZS petrol SUV is expected to fall in the bracket of Rs 9 lakhs - Rs 14 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in its segment.
