Skoda Kamiq will compete in the mid-sized SUV segment, while expected to come with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine

Skoda Auto sprung a surprise in the Indian automobile market with the triple model launches on May 26, 2020.  Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, It introduced Karoq, new Rapid TSI and Superb facelift via the digital route. The company isn’t stopping anytime soon with the recent spy shots of Kamiq SUV illustrating its ambitions for the Indian market. Skoda had confirmed last year about their plans of bringing the much-awaited SUV sometime in 2020. The Kamiq will be competing against Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta in the mid-sized SUV segment. Skoa Kamiq will be positioned below the Karoq while priced anywhere between Rs 12-18 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, India).

Ahead of its possible launch in 2020, Skoda Kamiq was spotted testing on the Indian roads. The images released by AutoWheels India on their Facebook page reveals the SUV in uncamouflaged form. The images show the rear profile of the Kamiq. From the leaked spy shots, it’s clear that the L-shaped LED lights and ‘SKODA’ logo will be embossed in the centre of the boot space. The rear bumper sports black cladding, while roof rails and roof-mounted spoiler are the other key highlights.

If we talk about the front fascia, Skoda Kamiq sports a split-LED headlamp design surrounding the Skoda signature butterfly grille. A strip of chrome flanks the front grille while the front bumper houses large air intakes and scruff places at the bottom. Skoda plans to import the Kamiq as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) for the Indian market and we can expect the dimensions of the SUV to be same as the European model. Dimension wise, Euro-spec Skoda Kamiq measures 4241 mm in length, 1793 mm in width and 1531mm in height with a  wheelbase of 2651 mm.

Internationally, Skoda Kamiq is sold with 3 engine options: 1.0L TSI petrol in two power tunes, 1.5L TSI petrol and 1.6L diesel unit. The Czech automaker plans to offer just the BS6 1.5L TSI petrol engine churning out 148 bhp of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired to a seven-speed DSG auto gearbox (direct-shift gearbox). The recently launched Skoda Karoq is powered by the same 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine.
