The current automatic gearbox will make way for the more refined unit that comes in the XUV500.

Mahindra is currently readying its facelifted Scorpio, and in its latest avatar, it will get an updated 140hp engine (output is up by 20hp). The facelifted car will also feature a more refined and responsive six-speed automatic gearbox, the same unit that does duty in the XUV500.

The six-speed unit, however, was engineered for transverse engine applications, and it won’t be a straight fit for the Scorpio. Mahindra will re-engineer it to meet the Scorpio's longitudinal layout.

The auto box will replace the company’s gearbox that was introduced in 2015. The current Scorpio's five-speed manual gearbox will continue to be offered on the facelift.
