The speedway is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to 12 hours.

A Greenfield expressway, which will connect New Delhi to Mumbai, cutting travel time to about 12 hours. The route goes through less-developed areas and cars and, assuming a car maintains a speed of 120kph, you can cover the distance in 12 hours. Currently, the route goes through Gujarat and Rajasthan and takes around 20 hours. The Rajdhani Express itself takes 16 hours.

Another expressway will also open soon, which will connect Mumbai and Nagpur, reducing the travel time from the current 14 hours to eight. The first phase of road construction has already begun, and it will first connect Gurugram Ring Road to Jaipur. This road will be completed in 15 months. Travel time will go down from six hours to two since cars can maintain higher average speeds on these roads thanks to them being made with better tar. Mumbai and Vadodara will be the next phase, followed by a road from Jaipur to Kota, and then Vadodara.

The expressway is planned under the Bharatmala Pariyojna programme and will pass through less-developed areas, said Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Trasport and Highways.
