Volkswagen launches Black and White editions of Ameo, Polo and Vento in India.

One among the world’s largest carmakers, German company Volkswagen has just launched ‘Black and White’ edition of Ameo, Polo and Vento in India. These are the special editions of the German maker’s cars. However, the prices of the new variants have not been increased and the company has also reintroduced a new ‘Deep Black’ color, which the company had stopped offering a few months ago. The reintroduced shade is being offered only on Polo hatchback and Vento sedan.

Although the prices have not been increased for the new ‘Black and White’ editions of Ameo, Polo and Vento, the customers will be happy to find out that a few new features have been introduced on the cars. There are no radical changes on the new special editions, rather the changes have been limited to only looks. The mechanics of the car also remain unchanged. Talking of the new features added to the variants, they include stylish new body graphics, roof-mounted spoiler for a sportier look for Polo, rear spoiler with gloss finish on sedans, 16-inch Portago Alloy wheels, black finish roof for contrast look, matching black ORVMs and ‘Black & White’ chrome branding on the fender. As far as interiors are concerned, the company is also offering faux leather seat covers for a premium feel. Although the company did not announce which model variants will get the ‘Black & White’ editions, the maker has stated that they will be offered on limited variants only.

While launching the new special edition variants the director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars division Mr Steffen Knapp added,

“It is our constant endeavour to enhance our product offerings that are in-line with evolving consumer aspirations. The Polo & Vento have been strong contenders within their segments. Adding a dash of style, these enhanced feature offerings further make an attractive value proposition for our discerning customers. In turn, giving them the power of choice within the Volkswagen product portfolio.”

As already mentioned, there have been no changes under the hood of Ameo, Vento, or Polo. The mechanicals of the cars remain untouched. Volkswagen offers its Polo with a 1.0L petrol engine rated for 76 PS and 95 Nm, paired to the engine is a 5-speed manual gearbox, and the car returns a mileage of 18.78 kmpl according to ARAI. On the other hand, the diesel option for the Polo comes with a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit rated for 90 PS and 230 Nm. The German maker also has a Polo GT variant in the market that comes with a 1.2L turbo-petrol unit rated for 110 PS and 175 Nm. The GT variant comes with an advanced 7-speed DSG auto gearbox. The diesel variant of the Polo GT is a 1.5L turbo diesel unit rated for 110 PS and 250 Nm and is only available with a manual gearbox.

Made specifically for the Indian market’s sub-4 meter compact sedan segment, the Ameo comes with the same 1.0L petrol unit seen on Polo rated for 75 PS and 95 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is offered on the Ameo. As far as diesel models are concerned, they come with a 1.5L unit rated for 110 PS and 250 Nm. The diesel units get the option of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG auto transmission.

Lastly, Volkswagen offers three engines on its Vento sedan. The first is a 1.6L petrol unit rated for 105 PS and 153 Nm, the second is a 1.5L diesel rated for 110 PS and 250 Nm and the third option is the 1.2L turbo petrol unit rated for 105 PS and 175 Nm.
