Honda City has earned the status of a 'cult' product in the Indian market due to the opulence and luxury that it carries. The sedan has been on sale for over two decades in the country and now the Japanese automaker is all set to unveil the fifth-gen model. Honda Cars India will unveil the City 2020 sedan on March 16, 2020 while the bookings are also expected to start on the same day across all the company authorized dealerships. Recently, the first teaser image of the sedan was released by Honda across its various social media handles.

Lets have a look at the exterior styling, interior cabin and engine specifications of the new-gen 2020 Honda City ahead of its launch in India.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Dimensions:

The all-new Honda City will be larger and spacious than the current model. It will measure 4533mm in length, 1784mm in width and 1467mm in height. The company has increased the length and width of new sedan significantly by 100mm and 53mm, respectively, as compared to the ongoing model. Although, the height has been reduced by 28mm while the wheelbase also witnesses a reduction by 11mm. In all, the extended length and width will benefit the rear seat occupants a lot by providing more space inside the cabin. For those asking, the new-gen Honda City 2020 will be longer than two of its arch rivals Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Exterior Styling:

The India-spec model of Honda City will be identical to the one which had its world premiere in November 2019 in Thailand. However, the company is expected to carryout a few minor cosmetic updates as per the liking of Indian buyers. The sedan will flaunt sleek design elements, somewhat identical to Honda's global products such as Civic & Insight. The front fascia will be dominated by the signature grille with chrome garnish and LED wraparound headlamps with DRLs. The fog lamp units will come with new design along with the sculpted bonnet and the traditional bumper. The Honda City 2020 will run on newly-designed diamond cut alloy wheels while the side profile will vastly remain the same as current model.

The rear end takes a lot of inspiration from the Insight sedan as it gets the wraparound LED tail-lamp cluster and a flat bumper with twin vertical reflectors on either sides. If we had to sum up the overall styling in one word, we would call it 'flat' rather than the curves that the present model flaunts.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Interior Cabin:

The interior cabin of the all-new sedan will get a few updates over the Thailand-spec model. It is expected to come with dual-tone upholstery and a faux-brushed aluminum trim in order to offer it as a premium product. The sedan unveiled in Thailand last year boasted of an all-black interior theme while the India-spec Honda City is believed to come in black and beige theme. Some of the exquisite features will include a sunroof, automatic AC, steering mounted audio and phone controls and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Honda Connect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Surprisingly, the City sedan will get the knob type buttons for the AC in place of touch buttons.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Engine Specifications:

The 2020 City sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with BS 6 compliant engines. The petrol variants will continue with the same 1.5L i-VTEC engine, albeit with mild-hybrid technology which was showcased with the recently unveiled model of Jazz. Though, the sedan is also available in a fully hybrid avatar in several global markets but it won't make it to the India-spec model due to being very costly. The diesel variants, on the other hand, will also continue to be powered by the 1.5L i-DTEC engine. Both the engines will be offered with manual and automatic transmissions.  

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Mileage:

The new sedan is expected to be cleaner and more efficient than the existing model. Though, the exact ARAI certified mileage figures are not out yet but we believe that petrol variants will dliver around 20kmpl while the diesel variants are expected to return somewhere around 28kmpl.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Safety Features:

Honda has equipped the City 2020 sedan with a plethora of safety fitments in order to enhance safety and security of the occupants. It will feature dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seat-belt reminder system, high-speed alert system, brake assist and rear parking sensors as standard. The range-topping variants in petrol and diesel fuel trims might get 6-airbags, traction control etc. among others.

Next-gen Honda City 2020 Price:

The 2020 Honda City price is expected to start at Rs 9 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) and go as high as Rs 14 Lakhs for the top-end variants. Underpinning the updated architecture of the current-gen sedan, which is also at the helm of new global model of Jazz, it would undergo heavy localization at the company's Greater Noida facility while the ongoing model is under production at Tapukara manufacturing unit in Alwar, Rajasthan.
