The South- Korean automaker made its debut in the Indian market with the launch of Hyundai Santro in the year 1998. The Indian customers were lured with the newbie car as it had power windows and came with AC’s which were considered a premium offering in those days.
The car came was priced at Rs. 2.99 lacs ex-showroom that made it one of the best options in the market at that time. The car was the preferred choices among Indian families for many years. However, the aging design led to its decline in popularity as there were many other cars that had a beautiful design and offered better features than the car. All this led to its discontinuation by the end of the year 2014. But the good news is that the Hyundai had launched the Hyundai Santro new model in the year 2018 with latest features and the new look is quite attractive. Hyundai has sold more than 55,000 units of the New Santro Model from its launch date to April 2019.
Hyundai is trying to create that same magic that the car had created around two decades ago. So, what has the Korean manufacturer done in this all-new Hyundai Santro 2018 version, let us find out?
Taller Than Before:
With the new version, Hyundai has made the Santro taller than before. With this, the car has returned to its tall boy design. When talking about the dimensions, the car is one of the tallest and widest hatchback cars in its segment. The overall height of the car comes at 1645mm while the width of the car is 1560mm. But the car is shortest in its segment which to be precise is 3610mm. While the dimensions might not be with a par with the original Santro version or the boxy design Maruti Wagon R.
Latest Features:
The new Santro variant gets a segment first features that makes it a true value for money. Some of the Santro 2019 specifications includes a 7-inch infotainment screen that is compatible with android auto and apple car play system. The car also gets a rear AC vent and a reverse parking camera that will aid in reverse parking. The car comes under top 20 selling cars in India now.
Gets Automatic Transmission:
The new Hyundai variant gets an Automatic transmission that is a feature that is seen in high-end cars, but Hyundai has given the option of AMT in the new Santro version. The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual gearbox which is available in even top variant known as Asta. However, the Hyundai provides the in house developed Automated Manual Transmission that is available in the mid-range ERA, Magna and Sportz variant.. The new Santro car mileage claims to give a fuel efficiency of 20km per liter of fuel. As of now, the car is available in only diesel variant only.
New Powertrain:
Despite the same 1.1 Litre, 4-cylinder engine that churns out the same power figures, but the company claims that the car gets an improved powertrain. The power and torque figures remain the same as earlier at 69bhp of power and 99Nm of torque that offers a punchy performance for the city commuters. The car easily crosses the 100km/hr mark and remains stable at high speed without the presence of much vibration inside the cabin.
Price:
The new Hyundai Santro Price comes at an introductory price of Rs. 3.89 lacs ex-showroom for the base Dlite trim. The top variant costs Rs. 5.45 lacs for the top spec Asta which is a manual transmission. The new Santro car on road price for the base model is Rs. 4.4 lacs while for the sport CNG variant which is the top model in the Hyundai Santro line up costs Rs. 6.33 lacs.
