The car comes with world’s first production variable compression ratio diesel engine.

Infiniti has shown its new large SUV, the QX50, and it features the world’s first production variable compression ratio engine. The SUV’s turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, diesel motor can change its compression ratio from 8:1 (for better performance) to 14:1 (for improved fuel efficiency).

The motor makes 272hp and 380Nm and comes mated to a CVT gearbox. The engine is 35 percent more efficient compared to the earlier motor according to the company. The all-wheel-drive variants are also 30 percent more efficient.

Thanks to the new platform, the company claims the car is more spacious than the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The QX50 is fitted with a host of driver assistance technologies, based on parent company Nissan’s ProPilot Assist system. More details about the SUV will be revealed at the LA motor show.
