Jeep is planning to launch a new compact SUV in the Indian market anytime soon. The aim is to tap the growing compact SUV market. The new model is likely to be based on the modified Renegade platform. Also, the upcoming model will be the first compact SUV in the segment to get an AWD setup. The spy images of the same have surfaced online for the first time.
Jeep is focusing on making an SUV that comes with an off-road capability. Having said that, the carmaker is also planning to offer an electrified powertrain that will provide an e-all-wheel-drive system instead of the traditional mechanical AWD system. The Euro-spec Compass 4Xe and Renegade 4Xe come with a similar setup. Both plug-in-hybrid SUVs come equipped with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol unit that delivers power to the front wheels. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle. It further churns out a top power of 190 bhp and a peak torque of 240 Nm. The American SUV maker is likely to equip the upcoming compact SUV with a similar setup. By doing so, Jeep will be able to meet more stringent emission standards. However, there might be an increase in the input cost.
