The 'YZF R9' nameplate has also been trademarked in several global markets such as Europe and Australia

Yamaha India has filed a trademark for the 'YZF-R9' moniker in the country. It has been learnt that the Japanese bike maker will finally launch this sports bike in the Indian market. Yamaha YZF R9 has not been revealed yet by the brand but this nameplate has also been trademarked in several global markets such as Europe and Australia. The filing of trademarks in multiple countries clearly indicates that Yamaha YZF R9 sports bike is not too far away from its highly anticipated world premiere.

The rumour mill has suggested that the YZF R9 will be based on the MT-09 while styling cues would be borrowed from Yamaha YZF-R7. Just so you all know, the most recent Yamaha offering - the R15 V4 - also took design inspiration from the YZF R7. As for features, it is expected to carry a plethora of bells and whistles in the form of a 6-axis IMU, multi-level traction control, wheelie control, riding modes, bi-directional quick-shifter and cornering ABS. There will be a fully adjustable suspension system with the latest braking system at the helm. Insiders have shared that Yamaha YZF R9 would be a track-oriented machine with electronics sourced from the brand's MT-09 bike.

Mechanically, Yamaha YZF R9 is expected to be powered by the tried and trusted 890cc 3-cylinder petrol engine which makes top power of 117 bhp and peak torque of 93 Nm. For those asking, this same engine is used by the Yamaha MT-09. For the time being, details are really scarce regarding the YZF R9 and we need to wait for an official announcement from Yamaha, which we expect will come very soon.
