The All-New Pajero Sport will make its way here in the summer next year. Codenamed QX (QE in some markets), this all-new SUV is based on the Triton light pick-up truck.
When launched, the car will compete with Ford’s Endeavour and Toyota’s Fortuner. The new SUV’s high-set bonnet and striking new grille, which the company calls 'Dynamic Shield' is fitted with fat bands of chrome that move around the radiator and down the chin. The company claims that the large grille has also been designed to keep the windscreen splash-free when wading through water. There are multiple ridges and folds on the bonnet to add to its striking appearance. There are chic-looking bi-LED projector lamps as well.
This car is massive, especially when viewed from its sides - the rear overhang is longer and frees up more room for third row occupants. The car’s large squared-off wheel arches and the pinched waistline add to its design. The shallow rear bumper and quirky looking tail-lamps look a bit odd though.
The SUV is 90mm longer than its predecessor, while the wheelbase remains unchanged from before. Under the hood will sit Mitsubishi's 2.4-litre MIVEC, four-cylinder turbo-diesel unit good for 181hp and 430Nm of torque. There’s a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and, the car will come fitted with an updated version of Mitsubishi's Super Select four-wheel-drive system. There’s a low-range transfer case, a centre differential lock as well as a rear diff that locks on certain versions. The car could also be the first in its class to offer an electric handbrake.
The new dash is impressive – there are loud chrome highlights on the centre console, steering wheel and door pads and there’s a large touchscreen with a host of modern connectivity options.
There has been no word on the car’s estimated price so far.
