The 2017 Swift used for the crash test came with six airbags; Indian car to only get two front airbags.

The upcoming new Suzuki Swift has been rated 3 stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests. The score is based on the car’s performance in occupant protection as well as the crash mitigating autonomous and non-autonomous safety technology that the car comes with.

The 1.2-litre petrol variant tested for the crash was equipped with six airbags, Isofix child seat mount points, a seat-belt reminder and seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiters. With a score of 83 percent for adult occupants and 75 percent for child occupants. Pedestrian safety and safety assist scores for the car stand at 69 percent and 25 percent respectively. These scores will not reflect on the Indian car, as the latter is expected to arrive with only two front airbags; four down on the car tested by Euro NCAP.

Internationally, higher variants of the new Swift also get ‘radar brake support’, and these cars scored a better four-star rating. The improved rating is solely due to the autonomous emergency braking feature.

Expect the new Swift to hit Indian showrooms in early 2018; the car will debut here at the 2018 Auto Expo. It is likely to carry over the current car’s 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine, but a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol (the one launched in the Baleno RS) is also likely to make its way into the Swift.
