Mahindra & Mahindra is likely to unveil the New-Generation Thar on August 15, 2020. The automaker is planning to unveil it via a web telecast on its official website. All the details regarding the test drive, bookings, and deliveries are said to be revealed at a later date . However, if rumors are to be believed then many dealerships have already started accepting bookings for the SUV. Apart from this, we have also seen the off-roader doing test runs on Indian roads in the past. More so the spy shots of the All-New Thar have been hitting the internet for almost three years now. Earlier, it was all set to launch in April 2020 but due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, its launch got delayed.
New Mahindra Thar will be wider in size as compared to its outgoing model as it is based on the new zen3 ladder frame chassis. This platform also underpins the current-gen Mahindra Scorpio and the TUV 300. Furthermore, it also gets an aggressive look due to the generation change. Upfront, the SUV will feature a wide & flat bonnet along with round-shaped LED headlamps. It also gets a front bumper located above the fog-lamps. Towards the rear, it should provide brick-shaped LED tailights. This latest version will ride on 18-inch black-painted alloy wheels. It will come with both soft and hard roof options.
Talking about the interior features, the New Thar gets some major changes. The cabin of the SUV will come equipped with a plethora of elements. These would include new upholstery with premium seats, cruise control and new multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls. The top-end trim will get a touchscreen infotainment system integrated with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto. Furthermore, the dashboard will be redesigned with circular AC vents. The main feature highlight will be the front-facing rear seats. This set-up will provide more space and safety to the passengers sitting at the rear. The safety equipment list will comprise of dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, speed alert systems among many others.
Under the hood, the New-Generation Mahindra Thar will draw power from a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that will deliver 187 bhp power and 380 Nm torque. The engine will feature Direct Injection and Turbo Charging. Apart from this, there will also be a 2.2-litre diesel unit in the offering. This engine will churn out 138 bhp power. Both engines will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox alongside an automatic transmission as an option. A four-wheel-drive system is also expected to be on the cards.
