The Next-generation Maruti Celerio will come with major design and feature upgrades

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the next-generation Celerio this year after multiple delays. The hatchback which was initially launched in 2014 has received only one mid-life upgrade in 2017. Now the company plans to give a second update to the model. Earlier, it was scheduled to launch last year. But due to the Covid-19 situation in the country, the Indo-Japanese automaker decided to defer the launch by a few months. Ahead of the official launch, patent images of the next-gen Celerio have leaked online. As per the images, the upcoming hatch will receive major upgrades in terms of exterior design. Talking about the price, it is likely to cost around Rs 4.70 lakhs (ex-showroom).

To begin with, the 2021 Maruti Celerio will be underpinned by the fifth generation version of the Suzuki lightweight Heartect platform. Maruti further claims that this new platform will offer improved safety, enhanced driving dynamics, and better fuel efficiency.  Dimensionally, the new model will be slightly larger than the outgoing model. This will further result in improved cabin space. From the images, we can clearly see a new grille and new projector headlamps with integrated DRLs upfront. On the sides, the 2021 Crelerio is seen with newly designed alloy wheels. Moving towards the rear end of the hatchback, it features new LED tail lamps and redesigned bumpers.

Moving inside the cabin, we can expect to see some updates in the dashboard layout. In addition, the next-gen hatchback will come equipped with features like a 7-inch Suzuki Smartplay touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Apple Carplay & Android Auto, a multi-function steering wheel, a new instrument cluster, electrically adjustable ORVMs, power windows for all four doors among many other. The new model will also feature new upholstery and new seats.

Performance-wise, the upcoming Celerio might retain the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine from the outgoing model where it churns out 75 bhp power and 90 Nm peak torque. The higher variants might be offered with a 1.2-litre K-series petrol mill that puts out a maximum power output of 83 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Once launched, the new-gen Celerio will rival the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago.
