Tata Nexon recently left Ford EcoSport behind and became second-best selling sub-4 meter compact SUV in India.

Before the arrival of Harrier this year, Tata Nexon was Indian auto maker’s latest SUV in the Indian market. Recently, Tata Nexon left the Ford EcoSport behind and became the second-best selling sub-4 meter compact SUV in the Indian market. Even for Tata Motors, Nexon is behind Tiago and is the second best-selling model of the company. It has been two years since the maker launched Nexon in the market and now it is working on updating the sub-4 meter compact SUV with a facelift. This facelift will aim at keeping the car competitive as the rivalry in segment is heating up with the arrival of Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Hyundai Venue. The company is also working on shifting the Nexon to their new ALFA platform and this could happen when the Nexon is completely updated. Apart from being based on the ALFA platform, Nexon will be designed as per the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. This could lead to Nexon borrowing a lot of stylistic cues from the elder sibling Harrier. Here is a speculative render imagining the next generation Nexon designed the same way.

The new generation will see the Tata Nexon shift from older IMPACT design philosophy to the new IMPACT 2.0 design seen on Harrier and upcoming Altroz. The next-gen Nexon will borrow heavily from Harrier in the looks department. The next generation Nexon could also get the very futuristic looking DRL above the headlamps setup that lends the Harrier its unique identity on the road. The shift to new design philosophy will not only change the front end of Nexon, it will also mean an overall design rejig and one can expect to see major changes on the new generation model.

The current generation of Nexon is built on company’s XO platform. The upcoming facelift on Nexon will continue on the same platform and design language. It is the next generation of the sub-4 meter compact SUV that will witness the shift to IMPACT 2.0 design and ALFA platform.

The shift being talked about above is in line with the carmaker’s goal of shifting their entire product line-up to the newer platforms. This move has been made by the company keeping the economies of scale and upcoming safety features in mind. Going ahead, the company will keep the scalable ALFA platforms for all of its vehicles under 4.3 meters and as far as larger vehicles are concerned, they will be built on the OMEGA platform.

Talking about the current generation Tata Nexon, the company it in two engine options. One option is the petrol model that comes with a 1.2L, 3-pot, turbocharged petrol engine rated for 108 Bhp and 170 Nm. The second option is the diesel model that comes with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine rated for 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. Tata offers both manual and automatic gearbox on petrol as well as diesel models of the Nexon.
