Japanese automaker Nissan launched the Kicks compact SUV in the Indian market at a price of Rs. 9.55 lakhs, ex-showroom in the month of January 2019. However, the recent months have seen the SUV from the brand perform not that good in the market. Nissan Kicks takes on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster in the Indian market. However, recent sales data shows that the new SUV from the brand has performed even badly than the older sibling Terrano. Nissan Terrano has been in the market for quite some time, and the brand has even gone ahead and discontinued the vehicle in the Indian market. However, the sales data for June 2019 shows that the Terrano has managed to sell 132 units whereas the latest Kicks from the brand could only manage 128 units. This after the Japanese maker is only dispatching left over stock of the Terrano while the Kicks is still in production. One can expect the slow sales of Kicks to spawn big discounts in the coming times.
Talking of the Kicks, it comes with 2 engine options in the Indian market. The first engine option is the 1.5L turbo diesel engine rated to produce 108 Bhp and 245 Nm, while the second engine option is the 1.5L petrol engine rated to deliver 106 Bhp and 142 Nm. Nissan Kicks is placed above the Terrano SUV in the market and even costs more than the latter. The Japanese maker has plans to replace the Terrano with the Kicks in the market once it is done dispatching the leftover stock of the Terrano SUV in India.
The Japanese maker is already running discount schemes for the Kicks compact SUV. This discount includes a direct cash benefit worth Rs. 70,000 and free extended warrant y on the car for three years. Apart from these, the company is also offering service packages and RSA on the Kicks free of charge. While the Terrano SUV is being sold without any discount by the company, there may be some dealer level offers on the SUV in order to clear the stocks. Kicks and Terrano are based on the same platform and also come with the same innards but the Kicks comes wrapped in a more attractive package with more modern features and interiors.
Talking of the features of Nissan Kicks, the new SUV from the company is fairly well equipped. The cabin comes with a touchscreen unit that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and comes with inbuilt navigation. The dashboard comes wrapped in leather, the central cooling unit is automatic, there is cruise control for long rides, and other features include keyless entry + push button start, automatic headlights, and rain sensing wipers. As far as the safety features are concerned, Kicks comes with dual airbags, ABS, traction control, hill start assist, and a segment-first 360 degree camera as standard. What is perhaps holding back Kicks is the lack of an automatic option, both on petrol as well as diesel models. While the company has plans to bring out the automatic option on Kicks, there is no official word out as of yet.
